What's in the bag

Branched-Chain Amino Acids (BCAA)
The inclusion of BCAA’s (in particular Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine) optimises recovery by promoting muscle health and regeneration and reducing post-exercise soreness.

Electrolytes
We’ve included a good balance of electrolytes to help replenish electrolyte stores when they are working and sweating. Feeding it in a mash with a delicious flavour encourages your horse to drink and rehydrate both through water intake and electrolyte rebalancing.

Balanced Carbohydrates
Performance horses deplete their glycogen stores when working so we top these up with a tailored blend of carbohydrates and super fibres to replenish their reserves. The optimum time to replenish these is straight after the horse has finished its exertion.

Beetroot Powder
Beetroot gives it it’s signature pink colour and acts as an antioxidant. Studies in human athletes have shown an increased ability to produce prolonged periods of effort (stamina).

Actigen™ and Omega-3 fatty acids
Actigen not only supports digestive health by adding valuable probiotics, but combined with the Omega-3 Fatty Acids we’ve included, it helps to support joint and immune function.

Super Fibres
We include sweet lupin hulls which are a rich source of fibre and pectins which act as a prebiotic. Prebiotics feed the healthy bacteria in the gut and boost their population. These gut bacteria are vital for fibre fermentation and utilisation in the diet.
Feeding Rates and Guide
Between 100-500g per 100kg bodyweight*
Adjust rate depending on workload. Can be split across multiple feeds.
*Rate not to exceed 600g per 100kg bodyweight.
Equi-Restore is designed to be fed as a supplement, on top of a well-balanced diet:
Add 1-part dry T&R Equi-Restore to a minimum of 2-parts water by dry weight and soak to the desired consistency.
- Always measure dry weight of Equi-Restore prior to soaking
- Minimum amount of water is 200ml per 100g mash ratio
- Add extra water to encourage intake and rehydration as higher ratios of water to mash
- Feed mash immediately once soaked
We recommend consulting with your veterinarian or nutritionist to determine an individual electrolyte balance programme tailored to your horse’s individual needs, fitness and climate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to adjust their normal diet before feeding Equi-Restore?
For normal horses, there is no need to change your current feeding plan. Equi-Restore is a fully balanced mash, therefore it can be added to your horse’s diet without disrupting your current nutrient intake. The small feeding rates mean it can be introduced gradually over a few days prior to a competition, without needing an extended introduction period.
Why is Equi-Restore Pink? How does Beetroot powder aid recovery?
Equi-Restore gets its pink colour from beetroot powder. Beetroot is a good source of highly bioactive antioxidants. Studies in human athletes have shown an increased ability to produce prolonged periods of effort (increased stamina) and reduce muscle soreness when supplemented with beetroot. You can read some of the data here.
While there haven’t been studies completed in horses, beetroot extract is a concentrated source of these antioxidants and an increase in antioxidant intake can support the horse during periods of stress, like exercise and transport.
Why feed Equi-Restore before AND after exercise?
The different nutrients we’ve included in Equi-Restore can provide multiple benefits when fed both before and after. For example, studies have shown that BCAA’s fed 1 hour before exercise can help with reducing fatigue and supporting recovery, while the electrolyte and glycogen components in the mash are vital for consuming soon after exercising to replenish stores and balances.
Can I feed Equi-Restore to horses with or prone to ulcers?
Yes, the salt and electrolyte balance in the mash should not cause a negative effect on gastric ulcers. When electrolytes are given in a mash, the electrolytes are naturally diluted through the addition of water (soaking it) and then the horse will drink and chew and through the chewing process the additional bicarbonate in the saliva will also ameliorate this effect.
If I feed Equi-Restore, will I still need to add more electrolytes?
That will depend on your horse’s fitness, workload and ability to sweat, as well as the environment the horse is exercising in (i.e. very hot and humid). There is a good source of electrolytes in the mash to support moderate levels of exercise, but if the horse is sweating profusely, it is advisable to add more.
